Lake Estes
Lake Estes is a human-made lake adjacent to the town of Estes Park, Colorado and at the foot of Rocky Mountain National Park. As a great summer and winter recreation locale, many tourists and locals alike spend their days on and around Lake Estes. Olympus Dam controls water flow from the Big Thompson River, providing energy to nearby communities.
Lake Estes lures outdoor enthusiasts in summer months to enjoy a nine-hole golf course, picnic areas, a marina, bike rentals, horseback riding opportunities, an excellent paved trail surrounding the lake, and magnificent views of surrounding mountains. You can rent power and sail boats to explore the lakes surface and seek flourishing Rainbow trout. Lake Estes Trail wanders 3.7 miles around the lake, along the golf course, and through town. This paved trail is great for strolling, biking, running, skating, and viewing elk and birds, the true locals.
Winter is a magical time of year around Lake Estes. Snowshoe and cross country ski around the lake and within Rocky Mountain National Park. Lake Estes is a great home base for your explorations in the Rockies.
