Lake Granby is the second largest lake within Colorado and the largest of five lakes within the northern end of the Colorado River Valley. Located about five miles north of Granby, the lake is connected to a series of reservoirs along the Colorado River and adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. Its 260 campsites, 3 boat launches, and wonderful fishing make this lake one of the most popular.
Granby Lake is known well among fishing enthusiasts for having fantastic Mackinaw Lake Trout. Visitors can rent power and sail boats at the lake but supplies are limited so reserve your rentals early. The ice melts from the lakes surface in early May, making it the best time to fish for Mackinaw. This is also a great time to spot eagles and osprey.
Recreational opportunities on and around Lake Granby are typically restricted to summer use only but offer excitement for everyone. Come to the area to enjoy boating, water skiing, wind surfing, camping, picnics, hiking, and fishing. In the summer come prepared for warm days and cold nights. Rain storms should be expected from mid July through August.
