Alexander MacGregor made a huge impact on the growth and prosperity of Estes Park, Colorado. As a successful entrepreneur he had experienced hands in many fields other than maintaining and developing his ranch. He managed a toll road between the town of Lyons and his ranch. He built a sawmill. He was an attorney in Denver and a judge in Fort Collins. He helped run a general store, post office, and a few tourist cabins. Alexander died from a lightning strike in 1896. His wife Clara and their three sons maintained the ranch. Clara and Alexander's great granddaughter, Muriel, became the last ranch manager of the family. Before she died in 1970, she created a charitable trust in order to continue ranch operations, begin a public museum, and contribute to youth education.
The museum collections and artifacts are all originals from the 1873 MacGregor's who built the ranch. Check out original clothing, furnishings, paintings, diaries, and photos.
