Attractions //
Shadow Mountain Lake is a human made reservoir located in the Upper Colorado River Valley, just north of Granby. The views from the lake are anything but bland with surroundings like Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, wilderness areas along the Continental Divide and Rocky Mountain National Park. Shadow Mountain Lake is a fantastic summer destination for camping, fishing, sailing, motor boating, water skiing, and canoeing.
Shadow Mountain Lake is linked to Lake Granby and Grand Lake. These all collect water from the Colorado River and are part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Shadow Mountain Lake has a surface area of about 1,300 acres and an 8 mile long shoreline. Expect a range of weather while spending a day on Shadow Mountain Lake. Although summer day temps range around 70 degrees, afternoons often bring powerful thunderstorms. Autumn days tend to be a bit milder in weather and electricity. Nighttime temperatures can easily dip below freezing so make sure to come prepared.
There is one campground, with 80 campsites, great picnic spots, groceries, and two boat ramps along the lake's shore. The lake's facilities are closed in the winter.
