The Stanley Museum of Estes Park, Colorado was originally located within the famous Stanley Hotel to host ghost tours of the property. While in the hotel, the museum told the story of the Stanley Hotel and of Estes Park, Colorado's oldest tourist town. F.O Stanley, the hotels original owner and designer, saw potential in Estes Park, which at the time had no gold prospects and poor conditions for ranching. It was, however, settled next to some of the most beautiful and pristine forests and mountains in the state. F.O. Stanley built this elegant hotel in 1909 and a tourism industry soon followed it to Estes Park.
After about seven years at the hotel, the Stanley Museum moved locations to the Stanley Village, just below the hotel. After its move, the museum added new educational programs as well as a 1909 Model R Stanley Roadster. It has exhibits on steam cars from 1905 through 1916.
