Where is Estes Park?
Estes Park sits northwest of Denver and west of Loveland, Colorado at the junctions of Highways 34 and 36. It is the eastern gateway community to Rocky Mountain National Park.
What are the closest major cities and distances?
Loveland, Colorado is located approximately 31 miles to the east of Estes Park (a 55 minute drive).
Denver is almost 66 miles to the southeast (about an hour and a half drive).
Grand Lake, Colorado is 46.5 miles to the southwest; an hour and 17 minute drive through Rocky Mountain National Park.
Where are the closest airports and distances?
Denver International Airport is the main airport that serves Estes Park. It’s 75 miles to the southeast. The Fort Collins-Loveland Municipal Airport is closer (38 miles) but only has one commercial airline service (Allegiant Air) to and from one city (Las Vegas, Nevada).

How much does it cost to enter Rocky Mountain National Park?
Entrance fees are $20 per vehicle, which is valid for 7 consecutive days. Pedestrians, bikers and motorcyclists can enter for $10 per person. You can also purchase an Annual Pass for $40 that allows access to Rocky Mountain National Park for a year from the date of purchase.
Can I bring my pet into the park?
You can bring your pets but they must be on leash at all times and are not allowed on the trails or in backcountry areas. They are permitted in area accessed by vehicles, which includes roadsides, picnic areas and campgrounds.
What campgrounds are available in the park?
There are five campgrounds and one group camping area in Rocky Mountain National Park. Two of these, Moraine Park and Aspenglen, need reservations as well as the group-camping area. Others are on a first-come, first-served basis.
What wildlife will I see?
You’ll find incredible opportunities to view wildlife in Rocky Mountain National Park. Watch for mule deer, of course, but also keep an eye out for moose, bighorn sheep and elk. There are about 280 bird species in the park, which makes for great bird watching.

The first paying visitor to Rocky Mountain National Park paid $3 to enter.
At the Stanley Hotel just outside of Estes Park, Stephen King was a guest and became inspired to write The Shining. The hotel provides a continuous showing of this movie for all Stephen King fans and others.
