Grand Lake, the oldest tourist town in Colorado, has maintained the image of the old west with its wooden boardwalks and its multitude of rich traditions and celebrations held throughout the year. A travel destination point for more than 100 years, Grand Lake is proud of its heritage and its community. One of the many celebrations held throughout the summer months is the famous Grand Lake Buffalo Barbecue, held in mid-July.
Grand Lake, Colorado is a year round resort community situated at the western border of Rocky Mountain National Park, only a two-hour drive from the Denver metropolitan area. The area is home to three huge mountain lakes, thousands of acres of public land in neighboring National Forest and National Park. But the best part of Grand Lake is the small town atmosphere. The warm community of Grand Lake sponsors special events throughout the year attracting not only residents of Grand Lake, but families from the Denver area.
July is a large month for celebration in Grand Lake, Colorado. Beginning with the 4th of July celebration it is followed with the Western Weekend held mid-month. Over the course of the weekend, folks will enjoy the Grand Lake Buffalo Barbecue, which features a parade, pancake breakfast, fun art, a historic walk of art and architecture, and the infamous buffalo barbecue.
