Grand Lake Fall Fishing Contest
Shadow Mountain Lake, Grand Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Arapahoe National Recreational Area surround the Village of Grand Lake, Colorado. The area offers an abundance of open space, providing numerous recreational opportunities in its mountains and on its lakes. Grand Lake provides a great outlet for water sports and recreation and is home to the Grand Lake Fall Fishing Contest, held in October.

Grand Lake offers exceptional opportunities for water sports and recreation. The lake is best known as the largest natural lake in Colorado, but it is also gaining recognition for its healthy and diverse fish inhabitants. Grand Lake provides anglers with kokonee salmon and rainbow, brown, brook and cutthroat trout.
The Grand Fishing Committee hosts several fishing contests throughout the year. The fall tournament, held in October, is the Grand Lake Fall Fishing Contest and operates under a special use permit from the Forest Service. The fall season is an excellent time of year for a fishing contest as the weather cools down providing ideal fishing conditions. Not only is the fishing outstanding, but also the aesthetics of the area are breathtaking. The fall foliage of the surrounding mountains is stunning with colors of yellows, reds and oranges.
