If you're planning a trip to the area, trout and salmon are the most abundant fish to be found in Shadow Mountain Lake; you will also find mackinaw and kokanee salmon swimming along with a good stock of rainbow, brook, German brown, and cutthroat trout.

Shadow Mountain Lake is the largest of the five lakes north of Granby. It's accessible from Highway 34, and has become a popular destination for boating, sailing, and fishing. It's famous for its mackinaws, but also offers decent rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon. Connected by a boat channel, Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake both contain a good amount of the same fish found in Lake Granby. All three lakes have marinas with any fishing supplies you may need.
