Nederland Colorado

Nederland, Colorado is located 17 miles west of the city of Boulder. It is the biggest town along the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway, which covers over 55 miles from Black Hawk/Central City to Estes Park.

Nederland came into existence due to extensive mining for gold, silver, and tungsten that took place in the area. At a later time the region started becoming popular for people wanting to enjoy outdoor recreation. The subtle beauty of the mountains and the promise of a calmer way of life also drew people here.

Summers in Nederland are very popular, especially for tourists. Located just a few miles from the Continental Divide and encompassed by national forest lands on the edge of the Indian Peak Wilderness Area, Nederland is a gorgeous destination to visit.

Rocky Mountain National Park is only an hour's drive away. Begin exploring the area from one of the many trailheads in the area, and you can hike up to 12,000 feet above sea level (or even higher) in a few hours. Hike across a glacier and enjoy the natural beauty for miles around from atop a 13,000-foot peak.

Longs Peak is probably one of the most famous peaks in the area. It is a 12–15 hour hike/climb - only take this hike if you are physically fit. If hiking isn't your thing, go fishing on a mountain stream, explore old mining dig sites, bike beside long-abandoned railroad beds, or have a picnic by an alpine lake.

In the autumn each year thousands of visitors come here to witness the breathtaking vistas of colorful aspens that cover the hillsides. This is also a great time of year to go hiking and biking.

Winter visitors come here for the cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the backcountry, or to ski and snowboard at Eldora Mountain Resort. Nederland offers the visitor high-quality facilities equipped for alpine and Nordic skiing, telemarking and skate skiing, as well as snowboarding.

The area is fast becoming more popular due to the location, accessibility, new facilities, and the value for skiers of all types. Lessons are available all season if you need to brush up on your skills. The slopes are open from the middle of November to the middle of April.
