Rocky Mountain National Park was established on January 26, 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson.
Wildlife abounds in the park and it is easy to view elk, mule deer, moose, bighorn sheep, black bears, coyotes, cougars, eagles, hawks and many other smaller animals. There are tons of wildflowers which are best viewed in June and July in the mountain meadows and along the hillsides. In the autumn, the visitor can enjoy the golden colors of fall.
Rocky Mountain National Park has many miles of trails for the enjoyment of hikers, backpackers and horseback riders. There are plenty of areas for the enjoyment of fly fishermen, bird-watchers and photographers. Even in the winter, the park can readily be enjoyed by snowshoers and cross-country skiers.
If you want to rough it, there are many front country and back country campsites to choose from. Local communities such as Estes Park and Grand Lake provide more civilized accommodations.
