Kawuneeche Valley
The lust and green Kawuneeche Valley is a part of the Rocky Mountain National Park and is located along the Park's western boundary. Along with the Never Summer Mountains on the western boundary, the Kawuneeche Valley comprises the more wet side of the park and this region displays a subtle beauty.
If you approach Rocky Mountain National Park from the western side, you will enter the park through the green Kawuneeche Valley and the Never Summer Mountains. This area of the Park is considered to be the wet west side of the Park. This area gets more rain and snow when compared to the eastern side. And as a result, the western area of the Rocky Mountain National Park is the area where you can find the lush forests, wide, vast valleys and high flowing mountain streams.
Several of the hiking trails which Rocky Mountain National Park is famous for cross back and forth throughout the Kawuneeche Valley. Some of the hiking trails also lead from the Kawuneeche Valley into the upper areas of the Never Summer Mountains and even beyond.
One of the best places to view moose is along the willow thickets which can be found along the Colorado River in the Kawuneeche Valley. The moose frequent and graze on the willows because the willows contain a substance that help the moose fend off ticks.
Although a spectacular sight, moose should only be viewed from a distance because they are a very large and dangerous wild animal.
The Kawuneeche Valley provides the visitor with many opportunities to enjoy beautiful, green scenery in the summer and fantastic fall colors in the later part of the year. This valley provides opportunities for spectacular photos and experiences that will last a life time.
