Moraine Park Museum

To be prepared to understand and truly appreciate the scenic wonder of The Rocky Mountain National Park, you may want to begin your visit with a tour through the Moraine Park Museum. At the Moraine Park Museum, you will learn all about the creation of the landscape that makes Rocky Mountain National Park one of the most scenic places on earth.

The Moraine Park Museum located in Rocky Mountain National Park is located on Bear Lake Road. There is no phone available at the Museum and the admission is free. The Museum is open from the middle part of April until the middle part of October. Although the Park itself is open year round, the museum closes from the middle of October to the middle of April.

The Museum is a great place to start your visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. At the museum, the visitor will learn all about the creation of the landscape. The Museum explains the geology, glaciers, thunderstorms and other forces that worked together and at times against each other to create the unique and fantastic landscape. The displays are engaging and will interest visitors of all ages. In some of the interactive displays, the movement involves the gliding of a glacier which demonstrates exactly how a glacier forms a valley between mountains.

In addition to the interesting and informative displays, there is an excellent book store which boasts of a children's section and gifts for the people back home.

You can start your visit at the Moraine Park Museum and then proceed to take the Free Shuttle Bus to visit other areas of Rocky Mountain National Park or elect to take a short scenic hike from any of the trailheads in the area.
