Park Programs
Rocky Mountain National Park, like all national parks, takes pride in the fact that it is a part of America’s greatest university without walls.
Education is one of the goals of the National Park Service. At Rocky Mountain National Park, there is a very strong tradition of guided walks, campfire tales and informal talks, which began in the 1920s and continues on to the present day.
During the summer, the park rangers lead a variety of daily activities, which are both fun and educational.
Ranger-led activities include
- short guided walks that cover such topics as flowers, geology and wildlife
- long hike with destinations in the higher country
- campfire programs
Films and slide shows can be viewed at
- Park Headquarters
- Kawuneeche Visitor Center
- Aspenglen Campground
- Glacier Basin Campgrounds
- Moraine Park
Park sponsored educational events include
- specialized classes
- field seminars
- technical climbing
- horseback riding
In addition, teachers and other educational leaders can make use of curriculum materials available through the Heart of the Rockies Education Program. There are also lyceum presentations, which are offered on Saturday nights at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center throughout the winter featuring a large range of interesting speakers.
