Rules & Regulations
Every national park is the property of the people. Therefore, to preserve and protect them, there are in place definite visitor rules and regulations.
Rocky Mountain National Park is subject to the standard regulations of all national parks, but it is advisable to review the specific park guide to familiarize yourself with the particular rules and regulations for particular park.
- Pets: Pets are allowed in the park, but are not allowed on the trails or in the backcountry. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times and are only allowed along the roadways and in the parking lots.
- Camping: Camping is only allowed in the designated areas or campsites.
- Enjoy but do not take: Removal of any rocks, plants, artifacts or fossils is strictly prohibited.
- Wildlife: Please do not feed any wildlife. If fed, animals like deer, bighorn sheep, coyotes and rock squirrels can become aggressive while begging for human food and have been known to bite.
It is the visitor's responsibility to know and follow all the rules and regulations of Rocky Mountain National Park. You can obtain a guide from any park service office. It is advisable to read the entire guide and to ask questions if you have any concerns or do not fully understand any of the rules or regulations as they are presented.
The best location for up-to-date rules and regulations in Rocky Mountain National Park is at any of the visitors' centers or at any of the various park entrances.
