There are a vast variety of camping opportunities in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Whether you prefer to camp in an RV or a tent, there is a spot just for you. Rocky Mountain National Park has camping available for backcountry camping, or camping in more established campgrounds. Come and enjoy all that this wonderland of nature has to offer the camper in the mountains of Colorado.

Rocky Mountain National Park has five established campgrounds which are Aspenglen, Glacier Basin, Moraine Park, Longs Peak, and Timber Creek. If you have a large group that wishes to camp together, there is group camping allowed at Glacier Basin.

Because of the popularity of camping in this spectacular National Park, it is best to make reservations far in advance of your anticipated stay, especially is you plan on staying in either Moraine Park or Glacier Basin. Camping is allowed all year round, but the water is turned off in the winter at the campgrounds. So, in the winter, you will have to get your water at the entrance stations or at the visitor centers which are open. Access roads from the east are kept open for winter mountaineering, skiing and backcountry hiking. Timber Creek campground is not plowed once the snow begins, so you will have to carry your supplies to your campsite.

Stay limits of seven nights (three nights at Longs Peak) are in place from late May through September. The limits extend to 14 nights at the year-round campgrounds the rest of the year. But to be sure of the time limitations and other regulations, it is best to check ahead by contacting the local Park Service.

It is prohibited to gather wood, but you can buy firewood bundles at the campground offices. Remember that wood fires are only permitted in the fire grates located in the campground or at the picnic area. It might be best to leave your pets at home if you plan on camping in Rocky Mountain National Park, because, although pets are allowed in the campgrounds, picnic areas and along the roadside, pets are not allowed on any of the park trails or in the backcountry. If you do bring your pet, remember that they must be leashed and attended at all times.
