Moraine Park
Once in Rocky Mountain National Park, if you take the drive on Bear Lake Road, you will soon arrive at Moraine Park. Moraine Park is a wide open plan which has been carved out by glaciers thousands of years ago.
One of the most scenic drives in Rocky Mountain National Park will take the visitor along Bear Lake Road to Moraine Park. Moraine Park is a vast expansive valley which was formed thousands of years ago when glaciers which had formed between two mountains ridges began to move. This wide open plain is home to all species of wildlife and in the spring is dotted with blooming wildflowers.
The area is named Moraine Park because the area is defined by two parallel ridges, or "moraines" which form the edges of the open plain. The Big Thompson River winds its way through the Moraine Park. This is an excellent area for nature photography. It is also an excellent area to simply sit and enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of the Rocky Mountains.
Moraine Park is a must see destination while visiting Rocky Mountain National Park.
