Park Programs
Every national park takes pride in the fact that they are all a part of American's greatest university without walls. Rocky Mountain National Park is no exception. The park boasts of a long tradition of park sponsored programs that enlighten and educate.
Education is one of the goals of the National Park Service. At Rocky Mountain National Park there is a very strong tradition of guided walks, campfire talks and informal talks which began in the 1920s and continues on to the present day.
During the summer, the park rangers lead a variety of daily activities which are both fun and educational. These activities include short guided walks that cover such topics as flowers, geology and wildlife. If you prefer a long hike, you can take a guided hike to destinations in the high country. There are also campfire programs and much more.
The visitor can view films at the Park Headquarters and also at the Kawuneeche Visitor Center. There are slide shows in the evening at Aspenglen and Glacier Basin Campgrounds, as well as at Moraine Park.
Although there are not as many programs in the winter, there are similar activities which include educational programs.
Rocky Mountain National Park also provides and sponsors specialized classes, field seminars, children's programs, nature walks and talks, wildlife viewing, technical climbing and horseback riding.
In addition, teachers and other educational leaders can make use of curriculum materials available through the Heart of the Rockies Education Program. There are also lyceum presentations which are offered on Saturday nights at Beaver Meadows Visitor Center throughout the winter which feature a range of interesting speakers.
