Kids winter fun in Rocky Mountain National Park is not hard to find. No matter what the age or persuasion, there are tons of activities for kids to enjoy in the surrounding area, including Estes Park.
A family vacation in Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park is something the whole family can enjoy, even in winter. Go skiing and snow shoeing, and have a great time together in the snow. Snowfall amounts vary depending on where you are in the park. On the west side the first type of accumulation that occurs usually consists of wet storms - this is why it tends to have the deepest accumulation of fluffy snow.
In most areas there is enough snow by late November to cover rocks, logs, and other objects, which makes trails and slopes safe for skiing and snow shoeing. The park has no ski lifts, however, so skiers have to use cross-country equipment that allows for ascending as well as descending the mountain terrain.
Rocky Mountain Park even provides a winter play area perfect for sledding. Snow condition reports are made on a daily basis - get them from any visitor center. Just remember, it's always your responsibility to pay attention to conditions to ensure safety before letting kids sled or play.
